A Casa Amarela é um laboratório criativo pluridisciplinar e interdisciplinar independente, projecto experimental de fixação do Colectivo Artístico GALERIA NÓMADA na cidade do Porto, em parceria com a MOVENPIK.SA - empresa promotora do projecto, responsável pela cedência do edificio e condições de estadia dos artistas residentes.
Situada no centro histórico da cidade, na zona do antigo Convento das Carmelitas, onde após a sua desactivação se sucederam os mais diversos usos ao longo dos tempos até que em 1903 vem a ser aberta a Rua da Galeria de Paris, com o projecto original de uma cobertura envidraçada de influencia parisiense, nunca concluída. Foi nessa altura ocupada por grandes armazéns de tecidos, ao que se seguiu um período de decadência, tornando-se zona de prostituição, local triste, degradado e pouco habitado.
Com reocupação recente, voltando a sua actividade para restaurantes e bares, esta rua faz actualmente parte do roteiro de lazer da cidade, crescendo enquanto pólo cultural.
È no numero 34, num edifício Arte Nova património da cidade, que surge agora a Casa Amarela, transformando uma antiga pensão numa residência artística e centro cultural de portas abertas para a cidade.
O visitante pode tomar contacto com o ambiente dos diversos ateliers ocupados temporariamente por artistas e criativos das mais diversas áreas e origens (Artes Plásticas, Arquitectura, Fotografia, entre outros), num contexto de criação livre e partilha humana á semelhança de outras estruturas já existentes noutros países do mundo e com as quais este projecto funciona já em parceria, procurando criar e consolidar uma rede de intercambio cultural e artístico internacional.
Paralelamente à residencia, é ainda criada uma programação de eventos regulares onde se poderá assistir a Performances, Concertos, projecções de Cinema e Vídeo, Exposições, etc., realizadas por artistas residentes e convidados, estendendo-se estes também à ocupação do espaço publico da rua.
Num formato de work in progress, experimentam-se novas formas de estar criativas e de vivencia colectiva em que cada individuo que nele participa é parte fundamental. Procuramos a oportunidade para a criação de uma alternativa sustentável para a produção artística e criativa independente, com base no desenvolvimento de um trabalho e pesquisa pessoal, num espaço de liberdade criativa e auto-gestão que consideramos privilegiado para a experimentação e investigação.
O crescimento e a aprendizagem artística e humana fazem-se de forma permanente através da partilha e troca de experiencias individuais e de co-criação, e conhecimentos entre os diferentes criativos, fomentando a discussão e a critica aberta construtiva como veiculo de evolução artístico, numa atitude participativa e activa perante o colectivo e a sociedade em que a única regra é a do respeito e compreensão por si próprio e pelo outro, como forma de potenciação e definição do próprio processo individual, assim como este é acrescento ao processo colectivo e social.
Num processo de trabalho aberto, obra aberta, a arte tornasse acessível a todos no fomentar de uma relação de proximidade entre os artistas e o publico, tornando possível um dialogo e comunicação directa e sem intermediários do trabalho artístico, dos seus processos e pressupostos.
Não sendo uma estrutura isolada, pretende-se o expandir do conceito e a criação de pontes, ligações e simbioses entre criativos, diferentes áreas artísticas, publico e sociedade, entre o edifício e a cidade, com outras estruturas culturais locais e nacionais que connosco queiram funcionar em parceria, inserido na criação e expansão de uma rede internacional que una espaços, estruturas e criativos com características e ideais idênticos, numa ligação planetária que fomenta e facilita intercâmbios entre os diferentes lugares e pessoas.
O Colectivo GN continuará responsável pela gestão do espaço até Dezembro, (ao que se seguirá um novo projecto no edicio com nóvos intervenientes -ainda em definição) e seguirá depois caminho rumo a novos projectos.

Casa Amarela is an independent multidisciplinary and multicultural creative lab, a pilot Project in the city of Porto carried out by the collective Galeria Nómada .
Situated in the historical city center, casa amarela’s present headquarters was initially a Convent, ,that was radically transformed in 1903, when the street was renamed Rua Galeria de PAris. Reconceived and rebuild in the Art Nouveau fashion of the period, n°34 was part of a street that wanted to reproduce the glamour and innovative architecture trends seen in big european cities at the time ; with the original plan of a roof glazing, Parisian influence, that was never built. At that time the buildings where occupied by big fabric storehouses, after a period of decadence it turned into a prostitution area, a sad and degraded place.
Thanks to recent business activities ; of which restaurants and bars, this street now plays a central role in the city’s night life, where cultural events are more than welcome.
Its at number 34, in an Art Nouveau building, city patrimony, that the Casa Amarela sets it’s grounds, opening it’s doors to the city and people of Porto.
The visitor is welcome to apprehend the different studios, temporarily in use by artists from diverse disciplines (Painting, Sculpture Architecture, Photography, and many others). The residency offers the opportunity to create and experiment in freedom as well as benefiting from the mutual exchange of ideas, influences and experiences with other artists. Relating to similar structures around the world, Casa Amarela has already established some partnerships with such organizations, creating and consolidating an international cultural network. Running in parallel of the residency work space, there is also a cultural event program with Concerts, Performances, Cinema and video projections, talks and Exhibitions ; showing the work of resident, non resident and invited artists, some also taking place in the street’s public space.
The working environment enables the residents to experiment new paths of creativity, and collective sharing in which every individual’s participation is fundamental. We create the opportunity for every artist to be part of a sustainable, alternative and independent art and creative production, based on the development of a personal artistic investigation, in a privileged context of self management and group support.
Casa Amarela’s offers a stimulating setting for the residents, permanent exchange between the other inmates ; nurturing co-creation, expanding personal horizons through debate and constructive critique. The artist will also benefit from the interaction with the public, and participation in the association’s curated shows. Through out these different dialogues, between the individual, his work, the collective, and the public, the artist will be able to evolve in a non pressured environment where the basic rule is respect ; to oneself and the other’s, therefore taking part in the collective and social process.
The open studio enables the public to access the universe of each artist, without intermediaries, offering the possibility of a dialogue around the process, and concepts inherent to the artist’s work.
Casa Amarela is in itself a place where creativity and creators merge, building bridges between different disciplines, between the artists, the public and the local community. Collaborating with other cultural structures, on a local, national and international scale, this project is part of an international network gathering organisations with similar ideals and conditions, promoting and enabling an exchange platform on a planetary scale.
